The unrest erupted on March 17 after rumors spread that a "chadar" with holy inscriptions was burned during Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)-led protests demanding the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.
Nagpur police have arrested 14 more individuals, including 10 juveniles, in connection with the recent violence that shook the city, bringing the total number of arrests to 105.
Authorities have also registered three additional FIRs, a senior police official confirmed.
The unrest erupted on March 17 following rumors that a "chadar" with holy inscriptions was set ablaze during protests led by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which was demanding the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.
The protests escalated into widespread stone pelting and arson, leaving at least 33 police personnel, including three Deputy Commissioners of Police, injured.
Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singhal stated that the latest arrests were made from various parts of the city.
He added that the decision to lift the curfew in affected areas would be taken after a high-level review meeting.
Meanwhile, Singhal held a security briefing at Police Bhavan in Civil Lines to assess the situation. Among those charged in the riots is key accused Fahim Khan, who has been booked for sedition. (PTI)
