The Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched a crackdown on the terror network following a deadly encounter in Doda, where four Indian Army personnel, including an officer, were killed.
This effort has led to the arrest of numerous overground workers and supporters of terrorists, with operations now intensified in the Desa area of Doda.
The encounter, which occurred during the night, involved extensive gunfire first reported in the Kalaan Bhata area, followed by additional firing near Panchan Bhata at 2 AM.
This operation, part of a larger anti-terrorist initiative in the Desa forest area, resulted in the loss of four army personnel.
"Four Indian Army soldiers, including an officer, were killed in action during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district," confirmed a police spokesperson. The soldiers who lost their lives were Captain Brijesh Thapa, Naik D Rajesh, Sepoy Bijendra, and Sepoy Ajay.
The spokesperson also noted, "This was the second major encounter in the Jammu region after five soldiers were killed in action in Kathua last week."
In the Kathua attack, terrorists launched a coordinated strike on two trucks carrying at least 12 troops. "The terrorists targeted the trucks, which were around 500 meters apart, with grenades and used armor-piercing bullets and an M4 assault rifle," detailed the police report.
Terrorist activities that initially began in Poonch and Rajouri districts have now spread across Jammu, a region previously free from such threats. "Over the last 32 months, 48 soldiers have been killed in action in the Jammu region," the report stated.
The ongoing counter-terror operations involve a large deployment of army and paramilitary forces conducting search operations and maintaining control in the region. The crackdown aims to dismantle the terror network and restore peace in the affected areas.
