The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) urged for strict action against the accused after scientist Dr Abhishek Swarnkar died following an altercation with his neighbor over a parking dispute.
A 39-year-old scientist at the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER), who had recently undergone a kidney transplant died following a parking dispute in Mohali with his neighbor.
The accused Monty constantly harassed Swarnkar and his family over parking.
Police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against him and raids are being conducted to nab him. They are also tracking Monty's phone to track him down.
Dr. Abhishek Swarnkar was allegedly pushed and punched by his neighbor during the altercation on March 11 in Mohali’s Sector 67.
Swarnkar was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
“We have lost a brilliant mind. Such an act of violence is unacceptable, and strict action should be taken against the accused," the organization said in a statement.
Calling his death a loss of “a brilliant mind,” the IISER called for swift and strong action against those responsible.
It also highlighted Swarnkar’s achievements, including his selection by the Department of Science and Technology to meet Nobel Laureates in 2017 and the recent publication of his research paper in the Journal of Science.
He was originally from Jharkhand’s Dhanbad passed and had recently returned to India from Switzerland to join IISER as a project scientist. He had also worked in the US, and Germany.
