K Kasturirangan, the former ISRO chief and key architect of the National Education Policy, passed away in Bengaluru.
K Kasturirangan, the former ISRO chief and chairperson of the committee responsible for drafting the landmark National Education Policy (NEP), passed away on April 25 in Bengaluru at the age of 84, officials confirmed.
"He left for his heavenly abode this morning at his residence in Bengaluru. His body will be kept at the Raman Research Institute (RRI) for the public to pay their respects on April 27," the officials said.
Renowned for his pivotal role in shaping the education reforms outlined in the NEP, Kasturirangan had an illustrious career.
He served as the chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University and chairman of the Karnataka Knowledge Commission.
In addition, he was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 2003 to 2009 and served on the Planning Commission of India.
Kasturirangan also held the position of director at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore, from April 2004 to 2009.
