Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said the investigation into the Air India AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad, which killed 260 people last year, has entered its final stage and the report is expected within a month.

The investigation into the Air India Flight AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad has entered its final stage, and the final report is expected to be released within a month, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said on May 8.
Speaking on the sidelines of an event at GIFT City in Gandhinagar, Naidu said the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which is conducting the probe, has been provided all necessary resources by the government. He stressed that the investigation is being carried out independently and with full transparency due to the international scrutiny surrounding the crash.

“We don’t interfere in the investigation. We are giving them all the resources they need,” the minister said while addressing reporters. He added that because foreign nationals were among the passengers onboard, the final report would likely face scrutiny from international agencies and governments as well.
The crash took place on June 12, 2025, when Air India flight AI-171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London Gatwick, crashed into a medical college hostel complex shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
The aircraft burst into flames after impact. Of the 242 people onboard, 241 died, while 19 people on the ground were also killed, taking the total death toll to 260.
The AAIB had earlier submitted its preliminary findings to the Ministry of Civil Aviation in July 2025. While the final report is awaited, the investigation has drawn significant attention from aviation experts and international observers because of the scale of the tragedy and the technical questions surrounding the crash.
Recent reports have also highlighted fresh submissions made by pilot associations regarding possible technical issues linked to fuel systems and electrical failures in Boeing 787 aircraft. However, authorities have not yet officially confirmed the final cause of the crash.
Naidu also said the ministry remains in touch with Air India regarding compensation and concerns raised by victims’ families. According to reports, a dedicated ministry cell has been coordinating with affected families and monitoring the compensation process.
The final report from the AAIB is expected to provide detailed findings into one of India’s deadliest aviation disasters in recent years.
