In a sharp escalation along the LoC, Indian troops repelled a Pakistan-backed Border Action Team’s assault in the Uri sector, resulting in the martyrdom of a soldier amidst renewed cross-border tensions.

The Indian Army successfully thwarted a serious infiltration attempt in the Uri sector of Jammu & Kashmir's Baramulla district on August 12–13.
According to multiple sources, armed militants supported by Pakistan’s Border Action Teams (BAT) attempted to breach the Line of Control under cover of night. The confrontation ended in a brief but deadly gunfight, during which one Indian soldier lost his life.

This infiltration attempt is notable for being a month after Operation Sindoor, India’s targeted airstrike campaign against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
That operation, initiated after the April Pahalgam attack, had prompted a temporary ceasefire. The recent breach signals a dangerous relapse in the fragile peace.
According to reports, the BAT-supported assailants engaged Indian soldiers during their crossing attempt. While Indian troops swiftly repelled the incursion, the militants retreated, aided by poor weather conditions.
Army searches are ongoing to ensure no remaining threat persists. The soldier who fell in action has not been named publicly yet. The Chinar Corps and higher command levels have expressed deep condolences, underscoring his bravery and sacrifice.
Earlier in the week, the Army had also mourned Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar, a 31-year-old soldier who died in a separate incident during operational duty in the same region.
Security forces have heightened vigilance across sector-wide positions. Intelligence agencies are intensifying patrols, and the Army is reinforcing infrastructure and surveillance to prevent any repeat breach.
