In the video, Singh is seen donning a white kurta and is criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi while insisting viewers to think about “justice” before casting their votes in the upcoming elections.
Actor Ranveer Singh has filed an FIR against an AI-generated deepfake video that has gone viral on social media in which he is allegedly heard voicing his political views.
“Yes, we have filed the police complaint and FIR has been lodged against the handle that was promoting the AI-generated deepfake video of Ranveer Singh," his spokesperson said on Monday.
In the video, Singh is seen donning a white kurta and is criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi while insisting viewers to think about “justice” before casting their votes in the upcoming elections.
“Vote for justice, vote for Congress”, the audio in the clip is heard as saying.
The video footage is based on his recent visit to Varanasi. However, the audio is morphed with the help of AI to mimic his voice. Singh was in Varanasi to be the showstopper at an open-air fashion organized by fashion designer Manish Malhotra. During the visit, Ranveer praised the city's infrastructure changes and shared his 'divine' experience of the city.
After the video started doing the rounds on social media, the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani actor on Friday, took to Instagram cautioning his followers against deepfake videos saying, "Deepfake se bacho doston" (Friends, beware of deepfakes).
This is not the first incident when an actor’s deepfake video has gone viral. Previously, deepfake videos of Rashmika Mandana, Sachin Tendulkar and Aamir Khan, also surfaced on the internet.
On the work front, the Padmavat actor is set to reprise his role of Simmba in Rohit Shetty's cop drama Singham, which also stars Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, and Tiger Shroff. Ranveer will also star as titular character in Farhan Akhtar's Don 3, slated to release in 2025.
