Mumbai Police boost security for comedian Munawar Faruqui amid threats from Lawrence Bishnoi gang

The criminal group led by incarcerated mobster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently being investigated by the Mumbai police for his possible involvement in the murder of former minister Baba Siddique, has allegedly threatened stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui.

The Mumbai Police have provided Faruqui with enhanced security due to threats from the Bishnoi gang.

A police official said that the gang provided information about a potential threat to the comedian. The motive is unknown and the police are attempting to find out more.

Over the last few years, several Hindu groups have filed complaints against Faruqui for hurting their religious sentiments during one of his gigs.

Following the arrest of three alleged gang members on Oct 12 night after they opened fire on Siddique in Bandra (East), the Bishnoi syndicate has now revealed that it is targeting yet another celebrity.

The Bishnoi gang and an affiliated group had together targeted a gym owner in South Delhi last month.

Previously, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a case against the syndicate and Bishnoi's peers under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in Aug 2022.

According to the agency's investigations, the group has spread its "mafia-style criminal networks" over other states in the nation.

These networks are suspected of engaging in widespread extortion from companies and professionals, as well as several high-profile murders, such as the May 2022 murder of popular Punjabi artist Sidhu Moosewala.

NIA has also conducted investigations that have shown that a large number of the syndicate's operations were either directed by leaders of organized terror groups working within Indian prisons or coordinated from abroad, mostly in Canada.
