Retired police officer Jagdish Patani, father of actor Disha Patani, said foreign-made bullets were used in the attack on his Bareilly residence as five police teams investigate the incident.
In the early hours of Sep 12, unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle fired around seven shots outside the home of actress Disha Patani in the Civil Lines area of Bareilly.
The Lawrence Bishnoi-associated Goldy Brar group has claimed responsibility, saying the attack was provoked by remarks made by Disha’s elder sister, Khushboo Patani.
The firing is believed to be linked to a video Khushboo, a retired Army major now a wellness coach, posted on her Instagram. She had criticized religious speakers including Aniruddh Acharya for alleged misogynistic comments, saying, “If he would have been in front of me, I would have taught him a lesson.”
These remarks, however, were misattributed by many to Premanand Ji Maharaj, a spiritual figure followed by celebrities, which intensified the controversy.
At about 3:30 AM, two bike-borne men approached the Patani family’s residence and fired multiple rounds before fleeing the scene. No injuries were reported.
Following the incident, Disha’s father, Jagdish Singh Patani, filed a complaint, and an FIR has been lodged at the Kotwali police station. SSP Anurag Arya said that authorities have formed five special investigation teams, including the Special Operations Group (SOG), to probe the matter.
Goldy Brar group, via a social media post by a member named Veerendra Charan, warned that the act was “just a trailer,” and threatened that any future disrespect towards the religious sentiments of the group would provoke harsher consequences.
They stated that the insult to what they consider their revered saints would not be tolerated. “If she or anyone else shows disrespect towards our religion again, not a single person in their house will be left alive,” the post read.
