The 39-year-old deceased victim has been identified as Revathi from Dilsukhnagar. Her nine-year-old son was critically injured in the crowd rush and is undergoing treatment.
A stampede at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad on Dec 4 claimed one life, bringing tragedy to Allu Arjun's eagerly awaited movie ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule.’
The film's premiere shows were held at 9:30 pm, where the incident happened.
A 39-year-old woman, identified as Revathi from Dilsukhnagar, lost her life in the premiere event, and her nine-year-old son Sri Tej is in critical condition. The woman went to the premiere with her husband Bhaskar and their two kids.
At around 10:30 pm, a wave of fans rushed to see Allu Arjun at the screening.
Videos shared online showed police officers and bystanders quickly coming to the aid of the victim.
CPR was administered to Revathi before she was reportedly taken to a hospital.
While the child was later moved to a super-specialty hospital and remains in critical condition, Revathi unfortunately passed away from her injuries.
As word of the actor's presence spread, the crowd became violent. Numerous people rushed to approach the celebrity, who was encircled by a security and police force.
Videos also show police using lathi charges to scatter the crowd. The main gate of the theater also fell.
The police increased security by using more force while Allu Arjun was still inside the theater in order to avert any unfortunate events.
'Pushpa 2: The Rule,' directed by Sukumar, is a sequel to the 2021 blockbuster "Pushpa: The Rise," which was a huge hit in India.
The awaited film will be shown in 2D and 4DX on over 10,000 screens. A post-production delay resulted in the last-minute cancellation of the 3D version's distribution.
Rashmika Mandanna and Arjun play the main roles in 'Pushpa 2. The supporting cast includes Anasuya Bharadwaj, Jagadeesh Prathap Bandari, Daali Dhananjaya, and others.
