Following a series of death threats targeted at Salman Khan, an anonymous message sent to Mumbai traffic control on Oct 30 claimed that the actor would be killed unless he paid a ransom of ₹2 crore, according to police sources.
Authorities have filed a case against an unidentified individual, and an investigation is underway. The case is being pursued under laws concerning extortion and death threats.
This follows the recent arrest of a 20-year-old man in Noida for issuing death threats against the actor and Zeeshan Siddiqui, an MLA and son of NCP (Ajit Pawar) leader Baba Siddique, who was shot dead on Oct 12. Police have transported Gufran Khan to Mumbai under transit remand.
Shaikh Hussain Shaikh Mausin, a 24-year-old vegetable vendor from Jamshedpur, was previously taken into custody by Mumbai Police after the Mumbai traffic police's WhatsApp helpline received a threatening message. The ransom demand in that message was ₹5 crore.
Due to his involvement in the blackbuck hunting case in Rajasthan during the filming of ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain,’ Salman Khan had already received death threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
In April, suspected gang members fired shots outside the actor's Bandra residence. Following these threats, the actor's security has been strengthened.
Baba Siddique, a former MLA and leader of the NCP (Ajit Pawar) faction, who was close to Salman Khan, was shot and killed earlier this month in Mumbai, near his son Zeeshan's office.
Salman Khan said that he didn't want to return to the show, but his business commitments forced him to do so when he appeared on the television program Bigg Boss 18 days after Baba Siddique was murdered.
The actor claimed that due to the challenging circumstances he was facing, he didn't feel like meeting anyone.
