The administration of Udaipur decided to suspend internet services in the city for 24 hours due to communal violence that erupted following an incident at a government-run school on Aug 16.
After a fellow student allegedly stabbed a class 10 student, the police arrested the accused. This action to cut off internet access was made to maintain public order and prevent further unrest, as outlined in the official notification from the administration.
In response to the escalating situation, Udaipur’s district collector, Arvind Poswal, has directed all schools and colleges in the city to remain closed on Aug 17 until further notice.
The disturbance has been described as a "tragic incident" by BJP MLA Phool Singh Meena, who criticized the severity of the situation, comparing it to past incidents like the Kanhaiyalal murder case.
"The situation in Udaipur has escalated into a riot. We should demolish the accused's house with a bulldozer. It's crucial to prevent such incidents. The government will take action against those responsible for the crime. We've seen a similar outcry in Udaipur as we did during the Kanhaiyalal murder case," said the MLA.
Poswal elaborated that complications with the victim’s kidney have necessitated the involvement of expert doctors from private hospitals.
"There were some complications in the boy's kidney for which expert doctors from private hospitals have been called in," he said.
Additionally, he mentioned that the police have filed an FIR against unidentified individuals related to the violence and have implemented prohibitory orders in the district.
The internet shutdown in certain areas is part of a precautionary strategy to manage the situation effectively.
The investigation into the stabbing incident continues as authorities work to resolve the situation and address the unrest in Udaipur.
