A group of students has asked the court to direct authorities to shift outdoor sports events away from the capital’s polluted winter months to safer periods.
A fresh plea has reached the Delhi High Court, with a group of school students asking for a clear directive to stop outdoor sports tournaments and trials from being held in the capital during the winter pollution spike.
The petition, filed through their parents, urges authorities to shift these events to periods when the city’s air quality is safer.

The students said they regularly take part in state-scheduled tournaments, camps, and trials in Delhi and other regions.

They argued that it is a scientifically recognized and judicially acknowledged fact that Delhi experiences an annual public health emergency from November to January.
According to the petitioners, holding school, inter-zonal, state, and national-level events during this season has become a growing health concern for the children involved.
They stated that “Delhi faces an annual public health emergency during the winter months” and highlighted that scheduling competitive sports during this period puts young athletes at unnecessary risk.
