The latest Education Ministry data also recorded lower school dropout rates, reflecting gradual progress in gender equity, student retention, and participation across India's school education system.

The Union Ministry of Education on July 7 released the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) Report 2025-26, which showed a marginal increase in girls' enrollment in schools and a continued rise in the share of female teachers across India.
The report, released on July 7, 2026, provides a comprehensive overview of enrollment, teachers, infrastructure, and other key indicators of school education across the country.

According to the report, girls accounted for 48.4% of total school enrollment in 2025-26, compared with 48.3% in 2024-25, reflecting an increase of 0.1 percentage point.
The data showed that the improvement has remained gradual over the past four academic years. Girls' enrollment stood at 48.0% in 2022-23, increased to 48.1% in 2023-24, rose to 48.3% in 2024-25, and reached 48.4% in 2025-26.
The Ministry of Education said the upward trend reflects continued efforts to promote gender equity in school education and improve access and participation for girls across different stages of schooling.
The report also highlighted a steady increase in the number of female teachers.
Women now account for 54.9% of the country's school teaching workforce, marking an increase of nearly five percentage points over the past four academic years.
Female teachers represented 52.3% of the teaching workforce in 2022-23, rising to 53.3% in 2023-24, 54.2% in 2024-25, and 54.9% in 2025-26.
According to the report, the growing presence of women teachers contributes to more inclusive, supportive, and gender-sensitive learning environments for students.
The UDISE+ 2025-26 report also highlighted improvements beyond gender representation. It recorded a continued decline in school dropout rates, particularly at the preparatory and secondary levels, compared with previous years, indicating better student retention across the school education system.
