Created by the Indian government, the NIRF evaluates and ranks these institutions each year, aiming to promote overall progress and development in the education sector.

In 2024, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay made a significant leap from 7th to the top position in rankings, followed by Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, at 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively.
