The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D), is gearing up to establish two new campuses in Haryana’s districts of Jhajjar and Sonipat. Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi, announced this news, highlighting that the ambitious endeavor is scheduled to reach completion by November 2023.
The Sonipat campus will notably house the IoE-funded SATHI building, expected to be finalized by the end of November 2023, with a project cost totaling Rs. 59.73 Crore. Meanwhile, the Jhajjar campus is poised to pioneer a groundbreaking initiative as India’s pioneering institute focused on Patient-Specific Drug Development for Cancer Treatment.
An exciting international venture is also on the horizon, as Banerjee revealed plans for the inauguration of formal programs at the IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus in 2024. Banerjee outlined a comprehensive strategy acknowledging the need for internal and external approvals that encompass diverse admission mechanisms for both India and the UAE. Aiming for a diverse and enriched learning environment, the institute is diligently working on adapting the existing facilities to align with IIT Delhi’s requirements.
The establishment of the IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus stems from a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked in July, as part of the IIT’s “Go Global” initiative. This forthcoming campus will mark the second international IIT campus after IIT Madras Zanzibar. Boasting a comprehensive curriculum, courses at the IIT Delhi – Abu Dhabi campus will span various domains, including Energy and Sustainability, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science and Engineering, Healthcare, Mathematics and Computing, along with other engineering, science, and humanities disciplines.
In an exciting venture currently underway, a three-week mathematics immersion program is engaging selected high school students in Abu Dhabi, providing an intensive learning experience guided by IIT Delhi faculty. This initiative caters to gifted high school students, offering a rigorous and immersive study of mathematics.
IIT Delhi is embarking on an extensive outreach agenda, slated to unfold throughout the year and beyond, as part of a concerted effort to enrich Abu Dhabi’s educational landscape. The institute also has plans to conduct specialized training programs for various stakeholders within Abu Dhabi and the UAE in the upcoming months.
