The Polish Embassy in New Delhi has announced a new online visa system for Indian students whereby appointments will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Indian students traveling to Poland were previously required to submit their study visa applications through the e-consulate system.
Students from India who are under the authority of the Polish Consulate or Polish Embassy in Mumbai are subject to the new regulations.
Students from the Indian states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi (NCR), Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh will be interviewed by the Polish Embassy in New Delhi.
South Asian countries Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, along with Indian states Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, are also included.
On the other hand, students from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, and Goa will be interviewed by the Polish Consulate in Mumbai.
Its jurisdiction also extends to applicants from Union Territories such as Puducherry, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Over 5,000 Indian students studied in Poland in 2022, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
Many Indian students who were studying medicine decided to continue their education in Poland, when the war in neighboring Ukraine forced them to leave the country.
However, Poland seems to be making big changes to work and study visas, even as the country is becoming progressively more popular with foreign students.
The Polish government announced its conclusions to do away with anomalies in the visa issuance procedure back in May 2024.
According to reports, pre-selection will become necessary in Poland, and universities there will presumably have to comply with the same requirements.
Poland is also thinking of restricting the employment opportunities available to foreign students there and may raise the minimum financial requirements for those seeking a visa or residency card.
