The ordinance introduces a structured, three-tier system to regulate and monitor private school fees, aiming to prevent arbitrary hikes and improve transparency for parents across Delhi.
The Delhi Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, on June 10 approved an ordinance aimed at regulating fees in private schools across the city.
The ordinance is modeled on the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, and is designed to prevent arbitrary fee hikes while improving transparency in the education system.
Education Minister Ashish Sood shared the development following the Cabinet's eighth meeting.
"The ordinance will be sent for presidential assent through the governor," he said, adding, "It will become law once approved."
Chief Minister Gupta said the move is intended to stop unjustified fee hikes by private institutions and bring financial stability to families.
The government, she said, is working to put in place a structured mechanism to oversee fee regulation and address long-standing concerns from parents over vague and inconsistent fee structures.
Sood explained that the ordinance sets up a three-tier framework for fee regulation.
"It includes school-level committees, district-level appellate bodies, and a state-level revision committee to handle disputes and appeals," he said.
The ordinance is expected to benefit students and parents across Delhi's private schools by promoting fairness and transparency in fee-related matters.
