Despite continuous demands from student groups for rescheduling of the examination, NBE has not paid any heed. However, the internship cutoff date has been changed from March 31 to June 30.
NEET MDS aspirants have made repeated calls for the postponement of the exam for which the next hearing in the Supreme Court is tentatively scheduled for March 15.
In a recent development, the second phase of the NEET MDS 2024 application window was reopened from March 9, 2024, 10 AM to March 11, 2024, 11.55 PM for candidates whose internship will be completed between April 1, 2024, and June 30, 2024.
NEET MDS 2024 admit card is also scheduled to be out on March 15, 2024. The exam, however, will be conducted on March 18, 2024, as per the schedule. NBE’s decision to extend the internship cut-off date has sparked renewed calls for the exam to be rescheduled in July.
Based on the students' requests against the eligibility internship deadline for NEET MDS 2024, which was March 31, 2024, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) decided to extend the internship deadline till June 30, 2024.
Hence, to give these eligible candidates a chance, NBE reopened the NEET MDS 2024 application window on March 9, for three days but the candidates were not provided with an application correction facility.
Candidates who will be completing their medical internship between April 1 and June 30, 2024, were eligible to register and apply for NEET MDS 2024 in this reopened window
The National Students' Union of India has also made appeal to the government to reconsider its decision to not postpone the examination. All India Students Dental Association has also come in support of NSUI demand.
Some of the reasons why NEET MDS aspirants want the exam to be postponed:
Last-Minute Stress: Students get admit cards only 2 days before the exam, causing anxiety.
Exam Center: Students finding out about exam centers just 2 days before exam may face logistical challenges
Few Centers: Only 56 cities have centers which leaves out many states and Union Territories
Cut-Off Debate: Students it is unfair to raise the cut-off marks
Concerns regarding exam transparency: Students unhappy with government handling, question fairness.
The students say the sudden increase in internship time but not exam date change adds to their stress. Many students can't take the exam, making things worse.
Amid these worries, NEET MDS 2024 aspirants have reached out to the Supreme Court, requesting a postponement of the exam until July.
However, with just a week left for the exam, the lack of clarity is just adding to the already mounting pressure on the students.
