National Teachers Awards 2026: President Murmu to honor 48 school teachers on Sept 5

President Droupadi Murmu will confer the National Teachers Awards 2026 on 48 school teachers on Sept 5, with the selected educators recognized for their contributions to school education and literacy.

The award ceremony will be held on Teachers’ Day, which is observed across India on Sept 5. The Department of School Education and Literacy said the teachers were selected for their dedication, commitment and efforts to improve education and make a positive difference in students’ lives.

The 48 awardees include 26 men and 22 women from 27 states, seven Union Territories and six central government organizations.

The selected teachers represent various educational institutions, including Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Sainik Schools, Eklavya Model Residential Schools, PM SHRI schools and other institutions.

Among the teachers selected for the National Teachers Awards 2026 are J Prakash Rao from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Rajesh Kouluri from Andhra Pradesh, Yaku Tame from Arunachal Pradesh, Rajesh Bordoloi from Assam and Suman Goel from Delhi.

Zafar Alam from an Eklavya Model Residential School under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs is also among the selected teachers.

The Department of School Education and Literacy said the awards aim to recognize educators whose work has strengthened school education and positively influenced their students.

Short documentaries featuring the work and contributions of each awardee will also be presented during the ceremony.

The selection was conducted through a three-stage process at the district, state and national levels by the Department of School Education and Literacy.

The awardees also include teachers from Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim and Ladakh, among other regions.

The National Teachers Awards 2026 will recognize teachers for their contributions to education and their efforts to support students both inside and beyond the classroom.
