The program developed with Cambridge University Press and Assessment will introduce climate science, renewable energy, and sustainability concepts to Classes 8 and 9 students in Maharashtra government schools.

The Maharashtra government has partnered with Cambridge University Press and Assessment to introduce a digital climate education program for students in Classes 8 and 9 in government schools across the state.
The initiative will be implemented through the State Council of Educational Research and Training, which has signed an agreement to roll out the Cambridge Climate Quest program.

The project aims to improve climate literacy among students and equip them with knowledge related to sustainable living and future opportunities in the green economy.
The program will be delivered through Cambridge’s digital learning platform in both English and Marathi and is expected to reach around two lakh students studying in government schools.
Arun Rajamani, managing director for South Asia at Cambridge University Press and Assessment, said, "Education is the starting point for addressing the complex challenges of sustainable growth. This partnership with the Maharashtra govt will expand access to climate education and help students become informed and responsible citizens."
According to officials, the curriculum will introduce students to climate science and examine the effects of climate change on ecosystems, communities, and global economies.
It will also focus on practical responses such as renewable energy, responsible consumption, and building climate resilience, encouraging students to connect these ideas with everyday life.
School Education Minister Dada Bhuse said the initiative will initially be introduced for classes 8 and 9 and may be expanded in the future.
"The initiative will begin with classes 8 and 9 and may be expanded in the coming years. Additionally, the department plans to promote awareness regarding hygiene and environmental conservation activities in schools starting this June," he said.
Minister of State for School Education Pankaj Bhoyar said the program will help students gain exposure to international perspectives on environmental issues.
He added that students who perform well will receive a joint certificate issued by Cambridge University Press and Assessment and the Government of Maharashtra.
As part of the rollout, Cambridge will provide digital learning modules, teacher training sessions, user manuals, and systems to track student progress.
Implementation of the program will be coordinated by SCERT along with District Institutes of Education and Training and participating schools across Maharashtra.
