Kaushal Bodh: NCERT’s new Class 8 book blends skills with learning

A new vocational textbook for Class 8 students has been released by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to promote hands-on learning in classrooms.

Titled "Kaushal Bodh," the book is part of NCERT’s efforts to implement the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.

The textbook introduces students to practical activities such as carpentry, home automation, animal care, and hydroponics.

It is designed to give learners real-world exposure that enhances concept retention and builds essential life skills.

According to NCERT’s official post on X.com (formerly Twitter), the new vocational textbook "Kaushal Bodh" is aimed at empowering students with practical knowledge that blends innovation with traditional skills.

This launch is part of a broader textbook update by NCERT, intended to encourage creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking among schoolchildren.

Several new textbooks have been introduced recently across different subjects and grades.

The new Class 8 Social Science textbook "Exploring Society: India and Beyond – Part 1" covers topics from medieval Indian history.

A Class 5 Mathematics textbook introduces interactive and engaging ways to learn math concepts. The Class 8 English textbook "Poorvi" includes stories that reflect Indian values and highlight notable personalities.

A newly developed Sanskrit textbook is aimed at fostering logical reasoning and creative thinking.

These revised textbooks reflect a shift in approach to school education, focusing on skill development, value-based learning, and active student engagement.
