Harsimrat Randhawa, a 21-year-old Indian student at Mohawk College, was an innocent bystander when gunfire broke out between two vehicles, prompting police to launch a homicide investigation.
Harsimrat Randhawa, a 21-year-old student from India, was fatally struck by a stray bullet while waiting at a bus stop in Hamilton, Ontario, on the evening of April 16.
Randhawa, a student at Mohawk College, was a bystander caught in a violent exchange between two vehicles, according to Hamilton police.
Authorities confirmed she had no connection to those involved in the incident, which is now the focus of a homicide investigation.
The shooting took place around 7:30 p.m. near Upper James Street and South Bend Road.
Investigators say a passenger in a black sedan fired multiple rounds at a white sedan, one of which fatally struck Randhawa.
Paramedics responded quickly and rushed her to the hospital, but she later died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Nearby, a home on Allenby Avenue also sustained damage during the shooting.
A rear window was shattered while residents were watching television inside, but no injuries were reported.
