IITs unveil cutting-edge programs for 2024

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) introduce a range of new academic programs that cater to various levels of education, from undergraduate and postgraduate studies to short-term certification courses every year. These offerings encompass a broad spectrum of disciplines, including risk management, premier banking, artificial intelligence, and more.

Continuing its trend from previous years, IIT Madras has unveiled several new courses to enhance the skill sets of students in emerging fields. Announced on March 15, 2024, the new programs include courses in artificial intelligence, applied data science, backend development using Java Spring Boot, cyber security analysis, and Android application development with Kotlin and Flutter.

The SWAYAM Plus platform offers these courses, designed to meet the industry's growing demand for specialized knowledge. Each course has its own set of eligibility requirements.

Furthermore, IIT Madras provides a range of certificate programs aimed at both professionals and students who wish to deepen their knowledge in specific areas. The certificate courses include:

• Fundamentals of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Charging Infrastructure (five months)
• Premier Banking (six months)
• Banking and Finance (three months)
• Mutual Fund Management (three months)
• Securities Operations and Risk Management (three months)
• Digital Banking (three months)

These programs usually require either a relevant undergraduate degree or work experience, offering valuable credentials that can significantly aid career progression.

IIT Delhi has introduced a new Master of Technology (MTech) program in robotics. This two-year course is intended for engineering graduates who have a valid GATE score and focuses on advanced robotics technologies, preparing students for careers in automation and intelligent systems.

Additionally, IIT Delhi has launched an MSc in Biological Sciences. This two-year program aims to provide in-depth knowledge and research skills in the field of biological sciences. Admission to this program requires a relevant bachelor’s degree with a minimum percentage specified by the institute.

Furthermore, IIT Kanpur has added an MTech in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Engineering. This two-year course is available for Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor of Technology (BTech) graduates with a valid GATE score and covers the design, development, and deployment of UAS technologies. It is designed to equip students with advanced skills in this innovative field.

The institute also offers a three-month certificate program in Full Stack Development (MERN Stack). This course is intended for undergraduates and graduates interested in web development using the MERN stack.

Moreover, IIT Kanpur has introduced a two-year MTech in Cognitive Systems, which is open to graduates from various engineering and science disciplines with a valid GATE score. This program explores cognitive science and AI applications.

Another new offering by IIT Kanpur is the MTech in Data Science, a two-year program focusing on data analytics, machine learning, and big data technologies. This course also requires a relevant undergraduate degree and a valid GATE score for eligibility.

IIT Kharagpur has launched an MTech in Artificial Intelligence (AI). This two-year program, designed for graduates with a valid GATE score, provides advanced education in AI technologies.

Additionally, the institute offers a three-month certificate program in Hands-On Artificial Intelligence for Real-World Applications. This course is aimed at bachelor’s degree holders or current students who wish to gain practical AI skills.

IIT Gandhinagar has expanded its offerings with new programs in Engineering Physics, Space Science and Engineering, and Mathematics and Computing. The Engineering Physics program integrates physics and engineering to develop solutions for high-tech industries.

The Space Science and Engineering program focuses on astrophysics, planetary science, and space exploration technologies, preparing students for careers in space research organizations.

The Mathematics and Computing program combines mathematics with computer science, emphasizing algorithms, data analysis, and computational modeling. Admission to these programs requires a valid JEE Advanced score and completion of Class 12 with relevant subjects.
