Two-day convocation sees record 2,701 degrees being conferred, with BS-MS programme making its debut.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee began its Convocation 2026 on September 19, with 1,277 undergraduate students receiving their degrees as the institute celebrated their academic achievements.
The first day of the two-day convocation was dedicated to students from BArch, BTech, Integrated MTech, Integrated MSc, IDD, BS-MS and BS programmes. Of the 1,277 students receiving degrees, 1,001 were male and 276 were female.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was the chief guest at the ceremony, while General N S Raja Subramani, Chief of Defence Staff and Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, attended as the guest of honour.
IIT Roorkee said it will confer a total of 2,701 degrees over the two days, making Convocation 2026 the largest degree-awarding ceremony in the institute's history.
The convocation also marked the first time IIT Roorkee awarded the BS-MS degree under its five-year Dual Degree Programme, adding a new milestone to the institute's academic journey.
Among the day's top honours, Srivaradan Balaji, a BS-MS Chemical Sciences student, received the President's Gold Medal for securing the highest CGPA among undergraduate students admitted through JEE (Advanced).
Other medal recipients included Navneet Kumar, who received the Director Gold Medal; Aashi Jain, who received the President of India Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal; Roopam Taneja, who received the Institute Silver Medal; and Sukrit Jindal, who received the Institute Bronze Medal.
The convocation will continue on September 20, with IIT Roorkee scheduled to confer postgraduate and PhD degrees on 1,424 students.
