The program covers mathematical foundations, machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, and hands-on implementation projects, preparing professionals to apply analytics and artificial intelligence directly to manufacturing operations and strategy.

IIT Madras has introduced a one year postgraduate diploma in manufacturing analytics, aimed at strengthening industry-ready skills in data analytics, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation.
The web-enabled program is scheduled to begin its first batch on Sept 7, 2026. Applications are currently open, and the deadline to apply is May 31.

Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official portal at code.iitm.ac.in/pgdma.
The diploma is open to candidates holding three year or four year undergraduate degrees in relevant disciplines, including BSc Computer Science and Computer Applications, subject to IIT Madras admission norms.
The program is designed primarily for working professionals employed in large- and medium-scale manufacturing organizations, as well as graduates seeking to build advanced expertise in manufacturing analytics.
The web-based delivery format has been structured to accommodate the needs of professionals and diverse learners.
Offered by the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, the diploma seeks to respond to growing industry demand for specialists capable of applying analytics and AI tools to manufacturing systems, productivity enhancement, and strategic decision-making.
The curriculum includes courses such as mathematical foundations for manufacturing analytics, digital transformation, machine learning and deep learning for manufacturing applications, and generative AI for manufacturing analytics.
It also features two practical components titled manufacturing analytics implementation I and manufacturing analytics implementation II.
The program concludes with a comprehensive evaluation focused on AI adoption in manufacturing, covering technological, operational, and organizational dimensions.
Structured across three academic terms over one year from September to August, the diploma carries 90 credits, underscoring its academic intensity and applied orientation.
The course framework blends strong quantitative foundations with emerging AI technologies while emphasizing real-world manufacturing case studies.
Professor V Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, highlighted the relevance of the initiative. “As India’s manufacturing sector accelerates its digital transformation, there is a clear need for programs that combine academic depth with industry relevance. This postgraduate diploma reflects IIT Madras’ commitment to creating future-ready professionals who can lead technology-driven transformation in manufacturing,” he said.
