The initiative aims to spark early interest in emerging subjects, offering students practical experience and academic exploration before college through flexible, eight-week online courses conducted thrice annually.
The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, has expanded its School Connect program, offering 10 online certificate courses to students in Classes 10, 11, and 12 across India.
Previously limited to two courses, the initiative aims to introduce school students to emerging academic fields and help them explore future career possibilities.
Organized by the institute’s Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE), each course runs for eight weeks and includes assignments along with an optional project to provide hands-on learning experience.
Registration for the August 2025 batch is currently open, and schools can enroll students through the website iitm.ac.in/schoolconnect/ by July 25.
Prof V Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said, “At IIT Madras, we believe that early exposure to emerging fields can spark curiosity and shape future innovators. By empowering students at a formative stage, we are investing in a future-ready nation.”
The program will be conducted in three batches during the academic year, in August, October, and January, giving students the opportunity to take up to three courses annually.
The 10 certificate courses being offered are Introduction to Data Science and AI, Introduction to Electronic Systems, Introduction to Architecture and Design, Fun with Math and Computing, Math Unplugged: Games and Puzzles, Introduction to Ecology, Introduction to Engineering Biological Systems, Introduction to Law, The Fundamentals of Aerospace, and Humanities Unplugged.
In addition to the current offerings, IIT Madras has also announced plans to launch more short-term courses in the near future.
These upcoming programs will cover a wide range of subjects, allowing students to explore diverse academic interests before entering college.
With this expanded initiative, IIT Madras continues to strengthen its outreach efforts by helping school students gain early exposure to modern disciplines and make better-informed decisions about their academic futures.
