The four-month live online program is open to final-year students and graduates from technical and quantitative fields, offering hands-on training aligned with evolving industry needs.
In response to the growing need for trained data professionals, the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has rolled out a new certificate program titled Foundations of Data Science for Engineers.
The course is intended for students and professionals with backgrounds in technical or quantitative fields.
It will be conducted over four months through live online sessions, making it accessible to participants across India.
Applications are now open on the official website, iitgn.ac.in, and will be accepted until August 15.
The program is available to final-year undergraduates and graduates from disciplines such as engineering, science, mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, and commerce.
Eligibility requires a minimum of 60% marks or a 6.0 CPI, along with mathematics studied at the Class 12 level.
There is no entrance examination for admission. Selection will be based purely on meeting the eligibility criteria.
The course structure offers 18 academic credits and follows a pass/fail grading system. It is designed to integrate three major focus areas: core data science concepts, application of advanced tools, and development of communication skills relevant to professional settings.
Participants will also engage with real-world datasets and undergo regular evaluations to strengthen practical understanding.
The total course fee is ₹200,000, which includes an application fee of ₹500, a registration fee of ₹20,000, and a tuition fee of ₹180,000.
According to the institute, the program is aligned with current industry demands and aims to encourage interdisciplinary learning.
A spokesperson from IITGN said, “This initiative reflects IITGN’s broader effort to democratize access to high-quality knowledge and build bridges across academic and professional sectors.”
The course will emphasize critical thinking and analytical skills, helping learners prepare for careers in data-intensive domains.
With flexible timing and no location-based restrictions, IITGN expects to attract a diverse mix of participants from both academic and industry backgrounds.
