IIT Delhi opens first lactation room to support nursing mothers on campus

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened its first dedicated lactation room for nursing mothers.

The facility provides a private and comfortable space to support women who are balancing academic work with caregiving responsibilities, aiming to create a more inclusive and supportive campus environment.

The facility was inaugurated in the presence of a new mother from the IIT Delhi community, with Director Prof Rangan Banerjee reaffirming the institute’s efforts to create an inclusive campus culture.

The project was made possible with CSR support from Shorthills AI, a data and artificial intelligence firm.

"I believe real progress begins with equal opportunity and care for all. We are honored to support IIT Delhi in this important initiative. As an alumnus of the institute, it feels meaningful to give back to the ecosystem that shaped us,” said Paramdeep Singh, co-founder of Shorthills AI.

“This initiative reflects our core values — enabling, uplifting, and standing beside women at every stage of their journey. Our sincere thanks to IIT Delhi for allowing us to be a part of this change. Together, we are helping shape a future where every woman can thrive,” Singh added.

Prof Angelie Multani, Dean of Diversity and Inclusion, added, “Lactation rooms demonstrate our commitment to employees' and students' well-being and to a more inclusive and supportive workplace culture where everyone’s needs are important.”

The lactation room is now operational and available for use by all nursing mothers within the campus.
