The initiative will introduce multilingual, mobile-first training modules and AI-powered learning tools aligned with NEP 2020 across schools, colleges, and vocational education institutions in India.

Google has announced a series of new partnerships and initiatives aimed at expanding artificial intelligence-based education and teacher training across India, with support from multiple state governments and UNICEF.
The announcement was made on May 19 during the Education World Forum 2026 in London, where the technology company introduced plans to roll out its Google AI Educator Series (GES) in India.

The initiative is intended to train school and higher education teachers in the responsible use of AI tools, including Gemini, for classroom learning and academic work.
Under the program, Google will collaborate with the governments of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Assam, the Union Territory of Ladakh, and the Punjab School Education Board.
The company said the training modules will follow a mobile-first approach and will be designed to meet the practical requirements of Indian educators.
Google said the first phase of the program will be available in six Indian languages, including Hindi, Assamese, Marathi, Telugu, Odia, and Punjabi, through pilot projects planned in selected states during the first year.
The company said that the initiative aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes the integration of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence into teaching and learning practices.
According to Google, educators participating in the training will learn how to use AI-powered platforms to improve classroom engagement, develop teaching materials, and support personalized learning experiences for students.
The company also said it plans to expand the initiative further through collaborations with additional state governments, universities, higher education institutions, and regulatory agencies.
Google highlighted its earlier partnership with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Chaudhary Charan Singh University to establish what it described as India’s first AI-enabled state university.
Announced earlier this year, the collaboration aims to modernize vocational education and skills training through AI and cloud-based technologies.
Alongside teacher training programs, Google introduced new AI-based learning tools integrated into Search.
The company said updated AI Mode features will allow students to create study guides, interactive quizzes, and learning material through the Canvas tool. A side panel has also been added to help users draft and refine academic documents and study plans.
Google additionally announced a three-year partnership with UNICEF covering India, Brazil, Pakistan, and Kenya. The collaboration will focus on strengthening literacy and numeracy through AI-supported educational tools and digital learning platforms.
Under the partnership, tools such as Gemini, ReadAlong, and NotebookLM will be explored to support reading fluency, personalized learning, and classroom education.
UNICEF will release annual impact reports to assess the effectiveness and scalability of the initiative across participating countries.
