GATE 2027 registration to begin Aug 27, check revised dates and exam schedule

IIT Madras has revised the registration timeline for GATE 2027, with the application process now set to begin on Aug 27, 2026.

Candidates will be able to submit their applications without a late fee until Sept 27. The extended registration period will remain open until Oct 5, 2026, with an additional late fee.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 will be conducted by IIT Madras across three weekends in February. The examination is scheduled for Feb 6 and 7, Feb 13 and 14, and Feb 20 and 21, 2027.

The institute will issue the city allotment notification on Jan 4, 2027, according to the official examination calendar.

GATE scores are used for admission to postgraduate and doctoral programs at institutions supported by the Ministry of Education. Several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) also consider GATE scores during their recruitment processes.

Candidates currently enrolled in the third year or above of an undergraduate degree program can apply for GATE 2027. Those who have completed a government-approved degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities are also eligible.

Candidates holding professional certifications from bodies such as the Institution of Engineers (India) (IE), Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), and Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI) must meet the prescribed equivalence requirements.

The official notification states that the relevant examinations must be approved by the Ministry of Education, AICTE, UGC, UPSC, or other designated authorities as equivalent to degrees such as BE, BTech, BArch, or BPlanning.

IIT Madras is scheduled to announce the GATE 2027 results on March 19, 2027, according to the official notification.
