The funding will help Central University of Tamil Nadu build new academic and administrative buildings, hostels for students and research scholars, and advanced facilities to enhance education and research.

The Ministry of Education has approved a major development project worth ₹385.27 crore for the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) in Tiruvarur, aiming to modernize infrastructure and enhance academic and research facilities.
The funding will be provided through the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA).

The announcement coincides with the university’s 10th convocation on Sept 3, where President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to deliver the address, adding to the significance of the moment, according to officials.
“We had recently made a presentation at the ministry about the needs of the university, and I am glad that the amount has been sanctioned. The funds will give a major boost to the quality of education and research in the university,” said M Krishnan, vice chancellor of CUTN.
The sanctioned projects include the construction of a modern academic building at a cost of ₹96.40 crore.
Residential infrastructure will also be upgraded, with a 300-bed girls’ hostel costing ₹46.63 crore and a 300-bed boys’ hostel at ₹46.91 crore.
Additionally, a 400-bed hostel for research scholars will be built at ₹42.60 crore.
To strengthen research facilities, ₹19.95 crore has been allocated for establishing a Scientific Instrumentation Centre and ₹16.84 crore for the procurement of advanced scientific instruments.
Administrative infrastructure will see a boost with ₹46.16 crore earmarked for the expansion of the administrative building.
Residential quarters for faculty and staff across categories will be constructed at a cost of ₹62.97 crore.
“CUTN was established in 2009, and since then it has been functioning with minimum infrastructure. After all these years, we will have proper hostels for students and staff on campus,” a CUTN official said.
The funding is expected to significantly improve campus facilities, research capacity, and the overall academic environment at CUTN.
