SRM University-AP launches transformative initiatives in AI, quantum computing, green hydrogen, and emerging technologies with global collaborations and future-focused programmes.

SRM University-AP announces pioneering initiatives in AI Education, Quantum Computing, Green Hydrogen and Emerging Technologies. Vice Chancellor Prof. Satish Kumar presented a brief overview of the transformative initiatives undertaken at the Meet and Greet organised with the university leadership and esteemed media houses to strengthen the university’s vision to disseminate transformative education.
The initiatives have already kick-started with the signing of the MoU and ongoing collaboration with the world-renowned institute - Carnegie Mellon University (CMU)’s School of Computer Science, for setting up an AI Institute. The collaboration promotes cutting-edge AI education with innovative technology solutions in all disciplines and courses for every field, including languages, liberal arts, commerce, science, management and humanities, and not limited just to Engineering courses.

To address the emerging demands for building a quantum-ready workforce, the university will launch a Quantum Institute that focuses on developing quantum science and technology. The institute aims to advance quantum computing and other fields through research, education, and collaboration. The university will also establish a Quantum Reference Centre and a Quantum Computer in collaboration with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to make quantum tools and knowledge available to a wider community.
With Amaravati declared as a Green Hydrogen Valley, SRM AP will launch an Energy Institute dedicated to advancing sustainable, clean, and future-ready energy solutions. The Energy Institute will serve as a hub for innovation, bridging academia, industry, and government to accelerate scalable green hydrogen solutions through applied research, pilot projects, and workforce development.
In the academic front, the university will launch novel programmes in Emerging Technologies such as Defence Engineering, Energy Engineering, Financial Engineering, Semiconductor Technologies, and Health Engineering, striving for proactive exploration into latent fields and establishing the institution as a thought leader of future technologies.
Prof. Satish Kumar stated that SRM University-AP is one of the first Indian universities to tap into the potential of emerging technologies. He said that the university is in the process of onboarding global stalwarts in future technologies to foster interdisciplinary research, enable high-impact publications and technology transfers, and build future-ready skilled professionals that will contribute to economic growth and societal advancement.
The landmark collaboration with CMU SCS facilitates faculty capacity building programmes, joint research initiatives, curriculum development and student internships. Four of SRM AP’s faculty members have completed their capacity-building programme and the next batch is set to leave this weekend. The university also offers a new-age B.Tech. programme in Computer Science and Engineering with specialisation in AI/ML.
SRM University-AP’s bold initiatives in AI, Energy and Quantum research and education underscore its commitment to shaping the future of science, technology, and innovation. By fostering cutting-edge research, industry collaboration, and future-ready academic programmes, the university is building an ecosystem that nurtures talent, advances knowledge, and delivers transformative solutions to global challenges. These efforts reaffirm the institution’s role as a national and global leader at the forefront of next-generation technologies.
