Delhi clears ₹900 crore plan to digitize classrooms in CM Shri Schools

The Delhi government has approved a ₹900 crore plan to digitize classrooms in CM Shri Schools as part of a five-phase project aimed at modernizing infrastructure and implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The decision was finalized at the government's 10th Cabinet meeting.

The initiative will begin with the installation of 2,446 smart blackboards in 75 CM Shri Schools and aims to set up a total of 21,412 smart classrooms by the 2029–30 academic year. The upgrade will benefit students from Classes 9 to 12 across Delhi.

“Between 2014 and 2024, only 799 classrooms had smart blackboards, and those were through CSR. Now we’re moving to over 21,000. This is not a side reform. It’s a complete shift,” said Education Minister Ashish Sood during a press conference.

The project goes beyond digital hardware. It includes teacher training, the integration of modern teaching tools, and a learner-centric approach to instruction in line with NEP 2020.

Fully funded by the government, the project has tenders for the first phase already in advanced stages. Unlike past efforts, this plan is designed for full-scale implementation.

Officials noted that the goal is to create interactive classrooms where students engage, think critically, and collaborate, while teachers guide learning as facilitators rather than traditional lecturers.
