NASA satellite launched to look for water on moon. Let’s learn more!

NASA’s Lunar Trailblazer orbiter was launched as a secondary payload on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Intuitive Machines’ lunar lander mission (IM-2) was the primary payload.

To search for water on the moon, IM-2 will land and drill below the surface.

About the Trailblazer Mission at Lunar

The instrument will help determine the nature of the lunar water cycle and the form, distribution and abundance of water by acquiring high-resolution images of selected areas while orbiting at an altitude of about 100 km.

Significance Guide future human expeditions to locate and harvest water resources.

Components: Two instruments from Lunar Trailblazer will measure from orbit.

The surface temperature will be mapped and measured by the Lunar Thermal Mapper (LTM).

Minerals and Volatiles High Resolution Moon Mapper (HVM3): Will search for light patterns that indicate water on the moon.

Lunar Water Drinking Supply Is Essential: becomes potable water.

• Oxygen that can be breathed and transformed into oxygen

• Rocket Fuel: Hydrogen-based rocket fuel.

• Solar System exploration: Water on the Moon opens the way to deeper space travel, including to Mars.
