Centre Advances Digital Governance With AI-Enabled Translation Solution

The Digital India BHASHINI Division and the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) have launched an AI-enabled document translation solution to support the translation of official CAG documents and audit-related reports, the government said on Wednesday.

Named “CAG-BHASHINI Anuvaad”, the solution combines BHASHINI’s multilingual language technology with the specialised terminology and language requirements of the CAG, bringing Language AI into institutional workflows.

According to an official statement, the initiative is designed to support the translation of official and audit-related documents while complementing existing institutional processes and maintaining appropriate human oversight.

Developed by BHASHINI under the Digital India Corporation, CAG-BHASHINI Anuvaad was unveiled at the closing ceremony of Hindi Diwas and Hindi Pakhwada 2026.

The customised Language AI solution has been developed with a focus on consistent terminology, contextual translation and quality of output. It also provides an AI-enabled environment for translating official documents while addressing institutional requirements related to security, controlled access and data sovereignty.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said the collaboration demonstrates the potential of Language AI to help government institutions make official information more accessible across India's diverse linguistic landscape.

The programme also featured a presentation on Digital India BHASHINI's Language AI capabilities and its applications across government and public-facing services.

Amitabh Nag, CEO of the Digital India BHASHINI Division, highlighted the evolution of BHASHINI across language data and AI models, applications and use cases, as well as the development of a sovereign Language AI ecosystem suited to India's linguistic diversity.

CAG Comptroller and Auditor General K. Sanjay Murthy emphasised the importance of ensuring that audit findings and reports are accessible to citizens in languages they understand.

He also highlighted the potential of technology to facilitate access to audit information in local and regional languages while complementing efforts to strengthen the use of Hindi and other Indian languages in official work.

BHASHINI currently supports 36 Indian text languages, 23 Indian voice languages and 35 international languages. Its applications include multilingual agricultural advisory services, voice-enabled grievance registration and processing, and conversational services that provide access through voice and telephone-based interfaces.
