India and Mauritius Strengthen Their Strategic Partnership signed eight agreements to strengthen relations across a range of industries

India and Mauritius signed eight agreements to strengthen cooperation across various industries during the Prime Minister of India's visit, and they unveiled a shared vision for an Enhanced Strategic Partnership.

Additionally, PM Narendra Modi received Mauritius' highest civilian honour in recognition of his contributions to India-Mauritius relations.

Significant Outcomes

Transactions involving local currencies across borders: The signing of an agreement created a framework to promote the use of local currencies for cross-border transactions.

MAHASAGAR: India's new vision for the Global South, "MAHASAGAR," stands for "Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions."

It will prioritize capacity building for sustainable growth, the spirit of commerce for development, and mutual security for a shared future.

Mauritius-India Relations

Diplomatic Relations: In 1948, India established diplomatic ties.

Trade: The total value of trade between Mauritius and India in 2022–2023 was USD 554.19 million.

In 2021, a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement was signed between India and Mauritius.

FDI: After Singapore, Mauritius was India's second-largest source of FDI in FY 2023–2024.

Cultural and interpersonalPeople Ties: Almost 70% of Mauritius' population is of Indian descent.To promote Hindi globally, Mauritius is home to the World Hindi Secretariat.
