The report on the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI 2025) has been published

This document serves as the yearly global oversight report for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 (targets 2.1 and 2.2) – aimed at eliminating hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition in all its varieties.
This year's report analyzes how food price inflation affects food security and nutrition.

Collaboratively published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the UN World Food Programme (WFP), and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Key Discoveries
Hunger Level: Approximately 8.2% of the world's population, equating to around 673 million individuals, faced hunger in 2024, a decrease from 8.5% in 2023 and 8.7% in 2022.
The hunger levels continued to increase in many subregions of Africa and western Asia.
Enhancements: Significant enhancements are observed in southern Asia and Latin America.
The rate of undernourishment (PoU) in Asia decreased from 7.9% in 2022 to 6.7% or 323 million individuals, in 2024.
Forecast: By 2030, 512 million individuals might suffer from chronic undernourishment, with nearly 60% of them located in Africa.
The incidence of stunting in kids under five dropped from 26.4% in 2012 to 23.2% in 2024.
The global prevalence of anaemia in women aged 15 to 49 has risen from 27.6% in 2012 to 30.7% in 2023.
Obstacles in Attaining Food Security: The global policy reaction to the COVID-19 crisis, marked by significant fiscal and monetary measures, along with the effects of the Ukraine conflict and severe weather occurrences, led to recent inflationary challenges.
Since 2020, inflation in global food prices has continually exceeded overall inflation rates.
Countries with low income have been especially impacted by increasing food costs.
