India's Higher Education Shines: Key Achievements in the 2024 QS World University Rankings

India's Higher Education and Research Landscape
India's higher education and research sector have received a significant boost in the 2024 QS World University Rankings by subject, showcasing the country's growing influence in the global academic arena.
Key highlights include prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) such as Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta securing positions among the top 50 institutions worldwide for business and management studies. Additionally, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) achieved a remarkable 20th position globally for development studies, reaffirming its status as a leading academic institution.

Further enhancing India's reputation, the Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences in Chennai secured the 24th spot globally for dentistry studies, highlighting the country's excellence in healthcare education.
India's ascent as a burgeoning research hub is underscored by a remarkable 54% surge in research output from 2017 to 2022. Despite ranking fourth globally in research volume, trailing behind China, the US, and the UK, India holds the ninth position for research impact, indicating the quality and significance of its scholarly contributions.
In the broader Asian context, India holds the second position for the number of universities featured in the rankings and ranks fourth in the total number of ranked entries, further solidifying its position as a key player in the region's academic landscape.
However, India faces challenges in securing citations in premier global journals, with only 15% of its research cited in top-tier journals between 2017 and 2021. Addressing this challenge will be crucial for India to enhance its visibility and influence in the global research community.
Overall, India's remarkable performance in the QS World University Rankings reflects the strides made by its higher education and research institutions, positioning the country as an emerging powerhouse in the global academic arena.
