Eligibility extends to school students in Classes 9th to 12th who are above 15 years of age. The application process is facilitated through the link: SJWP India.

Dr. Indumathi M Nambi, Professor of Environmental Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Madras, emphasized the significance of such competitions in nurturing innovation from a young age. "Seedling the need for innovations in the water domain in the minds of students at a very young age is crucial," she remarked. "Participation in such programs not only exposes them to societal challenges but also instills confidence in their ability to make a difference."

The competition aims to spotlight outstanding projects addressing various global water challenges, encompassing issues such as water pollution, unequal access to clean water and sanitation, water scarcity, high groundwater stress, agricultural water use, water governance and management, and ecosystem degradation.

Beyond providing a platform for showcasing innovative solutions, this competition fosters a global network of young water enthusiasts, promoting knowledge exchange and collaboration. Key highlights of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize include:

  • Recognition of ten outstanding teams with the National Water Champions Award.
  • Opportunity for the top 25 teams to exhibit their projects at IIT Madras.
  • Recognition for schools demonstrating commitment to water and environmental concerns.

As the world grapples with mounting water challenges, initiatives like the Stockholm Junior Water Prize underscore the importance of engaging and empowering the next generation to pioneer solutions for a sustainable future.
