What does NAKSHA refer to?

NAKSHA (National Geospatial Knowledge-Based Land Survey of Urban Habitations) is a tech-focused endeavor aimed at updating urban land records through the use of geospatial technologies and digital platforms.

Created By: Department of Land Resources (DoLR), Ministry of Rural Development

In partnership with: Survey of India (technical collaborator), MPSeDC (Web-GIS development), and NICSI (data storage and platform assistance).

Pilot launched in 2024 across 157 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) within 27 States and 3 Union Territories.

Formal opening in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh.

Goals:

Digitally chart, document, and revise land plots in urban and suburban zones.

Enhance quality of life by offering dependable and precise land ownership information.

Encourage openness, conflict resolution, and city development via authenticated land records.

Essential Attributes:

Comprehensive Web-GIS solution for mapping and storing land data.

Application of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and Electronic Total Station (ETS) for accurate surveying.

Aerial photos obtained via orthorectified drone surveys from external suppliers.

Enhancing the skills of Urban Local Body (ULB) officials at four National Centres of Excellence.

Training includes legal regulations, land mapping techniques, and geospatial tools.

Importance:

Facilitates citizen empowerment by providing access to transparent land titles.

Facilitates sustainable city growth through revised land-use planning.

Minimizes opportunities for disputes and fraud linked to land.
