The Prime Minister recently launched Mizoram's inaugural railway line, signifying a pivotal moment in the state's journey towards improved connectivity.

The Bairabi–Sairang broad-gauge project is a 51.38-km track connecting Aizawl to Silchar in Assam, and subsequently to the rest of the nation.

Aizawl is now the fourth northeastern capital to acquire direct rail connectivity, following Guwahati in Assam, Agartala in Tripura, and Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh.

Project approved in - 2008-09 and

Construction of the project began in 2015.

Approximately 54% of the alignment goes through tunnels and bridges.

The main feature of this route is India's second-tallest railway bridge close to Sairang, reaching a height of 114 meters - 42 meters higher than the Qutub Minar.

India's tallest railway bridge - Chenab Rail Bridge, is a component of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.

Importance - The Bairabi–Sairang railway is anticipated to revolutionize logistics and tourism, shorten travel duration, create jobs, and represents a significant advancement in realizing the government’s Act East Policy.

The 45-km Aizawl Bypass Road funded by PM-DevINE, along with the Thenzawl–Sialsuk Road and the Khankawn–Rongura Road supported by NESIDS, is designed to facilitate transportation and enhance accessibility for farmers and traders.
