Two Master of Arts students enrolled in the German Studies Section of Aligarh Muslim University's Department of Foreign Languages have secured the highly esteemed DAAD scholarship, granting them the opportunity to participate in summer courses offered in Germany for international students and graduates in 2024. This achievement not only signifies the academic excellence of the students but also highlights the growing prominence of foreign language studies at AMU.
Mr. Hammad and Md Shad Ali, both pursuing MA degrees in German, have been selected for the scholarship, which will enable them to embark on an enriching academic experience in Germany. Scheduled to depart for Germany in July 2024, they will undertake month-long summer courses at esteemed institutions. Mr. Hammad will attend the course at the Technical University of Applied Sciences, Wildau in Berlin, while Mr. Shad Ali will participate at Leibniz University, Hannover.
The DAAD scholarship, valued at 2,559 Euros, covers the airfare and tuition fees for the duration of the program, providing the students with invaluable support to pursue their academic aspirations abroad. This achievement marks a significant milestone for AMU, as it is the first time the university has hosted the DAAD scholarship test on campus.
In recent months, as part of the rigorous selection process, the German section of the department collaborated with the DAAD office in Delhi to organize a qualifying test. Under the supervision of Dr. Jan Helge Weidemann, a DAAD Lecturer from Bremen, Germany, the examination was conducted at the department. Out of the participants, five students from the German section successfully passed the eligibility test, demonstrating their proficiency at the B1 level in the German language.
Professor Muhammad Azhar, Chairman of the Department and Dean of the Faculty of International Studies, lauded the students' achievement, stating, "This accomplishment underscores the high standard of education provided by our faculty members. With the increasing demand for foreign language proficiency, securing the DAAD scholarship is a significant milestone that will further promote foreign language studies in our region."
Mr. Syed Salman Abbas, Assistant Professor of the German section, also extended his congratulations to the students, remarking, "This is a historic moment for our department, as it is the first time our students have been honored with such a prestigious scholarship as part of their ongoing coursework. We express our gratitude to the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for their special attention to our students and their commitment to promoting international academic exchanges."
The success of Mr. Hammad and Md Shad Ali in securing the DAAD scholarship underscores AMU's commitment to fostering academic excellence and providing students with opportunities for global learning experiences. Their achievement serves as an inspiration for aspiring scholars and highlights the university's dedication to promoting cultural exchange and international collaboration in the field of education.
