The schools offer fully funded education, including lodging, meals, study materials, and sports facilities, ensuring SC and ST students receive quality learning opportunities without financial burden in a supportive environment.

Bihar has opened admissions for students from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities to its Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Residential Schools ahead of the 2026–27 academic year, extending free residential education across 91 campuses in the state.
The application window runs from Jan 6 to Feb 5, and parents can apply either online or offline. The schools offer full residential facilities, including lodging, meals, study materials, uniforms, sports infrastructure, and academic support, entirely funded by the state government.

Admissions are available for entry at Class 1 and Class 6. Selection for Class 1 will be conducted through an online lottery, while Class 6 applicants will be required to appear for a state-level entrance examination on Feb 22.
The entrance test will assess students in Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science, with a total score of 100 marks.
Admit cards will be issued between Feb 15 and Feb 20, and results are scheduled to be announced on March 10. The admission process for selected students will begin on March 11.
Parents opting for offline applications can submit completed forms at the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Welfare Office in their respective districts.
Officials said the parallel application system is meant to ensure access for families in remote areas and those with limited digital access.
The SC and ST Welfare Department has made all application guidelines and forms available through official platforms to ensure transparency and uniformity in the process.

State officials said the Ambedkar Residential Schools are a key component of Bihar’s efforts to promote educational equity.
By providing cost-free, fully supported schooling, the program aims to remove financial barriers and create a stable learning environment for students from marginalized communities.
With the admission process now underway, eligible families have been encouraged to apply before the Feb 5 deadline to secure entry for the upcoming academic session.
