A Class 8 student in Senguttaipalayam village of Coimbatore who had just started menstruating, was reportedly made to take exams outside the classroom, sparking outrage and calls for school accountability.
In the Coimbatore region of Tamil Nadu, a private school has come under heavy criticism for allegedly discriminating against a 13-year-old girl because she was menstruating.
The Class 8 student was reportedly made to take her Science and Social Science exams outside the classroom on April 7 and April 9, respectively, at a private matriculation school in Senguttaipalayam village.
The incident came to light after a video of the girl’s mother confronting school officials went viral on social media.
In the emotional video, the mother is seen questioning the school’s discriminatory treatment.
According to reports, the student began menstruating on April 5 and was subsequently made to sit outside the classroom during her examinations.
The video has sparked widespread public outrage, with community members, parents, and activists condemning the school’s actions as deeply harmful and regressive.
In response, local residents have announced plans to submit a petition to the Pollachi sub-collector, demanding accountability from the school administration.
