AI can revolutionize Indian education by 2047: Report

A new report by EY India and The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) has outlined how artificial intelligence (AI) can play a pivotal role in reshaping India’s education system to meet the country's development goals by 2047.

The study, titled “AI as a Catalyst for Education Delivery,” emphasizes the need for personalized, inclusive, and future-ready learning for over 250 million students across the country.

The report highlights how AI is already making an impact in both school and higher education.

From adaptive learning technologies and multilingual content access to improved institutional decision-making in areas like admissions, performance tracking, and employability, AI is changing how education is delivered.

Particular attention is given to the role AI can play in improving access in India’s Eastern and Northeastern regions.

These areas, the report notes, can benefit significantly from vernacular content delivery, teacher training, and innovations suited to low-bandwidth environments.

“AI can do for education what mobile phones did for communication in India—it can make access universal, personalized, and truly transformative,” said Vikas Aggarwal, Partner and Education Sector Leader, Government Public Sector, EY India.

“We’re already seeing AI shift education away from a rigid, one-size-fits-all approach to something far more adaptive and engaging for both students and teachers. As India moves toward building a future-ready education system, AI will be critical in making learning more inclusive, multilingual, and supportive of educators through smart tools and insights,” Aggarwal added.

The report calls for a nationwide, long-term strategy for integrating AI into the education ecosystem. It recommends moving beyond isolated pilot programs toward a scalable and ethical implementation of AI tools.

Anchored in the National Education Policy (NEP), the report urges collaboration between policymakers, educators, and industry leaders to build an ecosystem where AI enhances learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness.

Rather than viewing AI as a technological upgrade, the report positions it as a strategic enabler that can drive systemic reforms across all levels of education, essential for achieving the country's vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
